Paying for Jembatan Programs

One of the biggest barriers that students face when they look into study abroad programs is the cost of traveling and studying abroad. At Jembatan, we are committed to working with your students and your school to make the financing and the billing process as manageable as possible.

Invoicing Students

It is understood that students who register with Jembatan will be billed directly for their programs, unless otherwise noted by your school (see Invoicing Schools Directly below).

If the student receives any financial aid from their school that they would like to apply towards their study abroad program, we will also provide a Financial Aid Disbursement form for their convenience. The first section of this two-part document must be signed by the school’s financial aid office, and describes the amounts and expected disbursal dates of financial aid which will be directed toward their Jembatan program. The second part of this document requires the student to detail how and when Jembatan can expect the remaining program fees by the given deadline.

Invoicing Schools Directly

In some cases, billing the student’s university for their Jembatan program is the most convenient and advantageous process available. This is why Jembatan provides our Direct Billing alternative.

With Direct Billing, your school agrees to pay all of the program fees for your students studying with Jembatan. There are many reasons why schools might decide to choose this option. A few of the advantages that direct billing provides include:

  1. Security and Simplicity. Many students and their parents find it more convenient to have a single billing party with whom they interact during their entire college program. With Direct Billing, the university stands between the student and Jembatan, providing a consistent billing party for them and their parents.
  2. Financial Aid. Many schools also discover the Direct Billing option preferable when processing financial aid for their students. For example, by using Direct Billing loans, grants, scholarships and other forms of financial aid can be disbursed immediately to Jembatan rather than to the students directly. This saves both time and extra handling. And, in some cases, Direct Billing is the only way for students to secure institutional scholarships for studying abroad. As a result, universities that provide this option for their students, also broaden the pool of candidates who are eligible to travel and study abroad.
  3. Shielding Institutional Income. When students register with Jembatan, monies they would generally pay to their home university are used to fund their program with us. For some schools, particularly private institutions with high tuition, it may be to their advantage to charge their students regular tuition in conjunction with their program fees through Direct Billing, and then pay Jembatan directly. This can not only protect some institutional income, but also keeps enrollment numbers intact – numbers which can translate into funding for certain academic departments.

The Invoice Itself

For each student application, Jembatan will present one invoice to your school, complete with the following information:

  • Your student’s full name
  • Your student’s program information
  • Your student’s program information
  • Your student’s Social Security number
  • Payment due date

Due Dates

All final payments are expected no later than the following dates:

  • Fall programs: July 1st
  • Spring Programs: December 1st
  • Summer programs: April 1st

Early Withdrawals

If students cancel after the published Jembatan Program Withdrawal Date, the student is liable for the full amount of the Program Fees. As a Direct Billing institution, your school agrees to collect these fees from the student and remit them to Jembatan in accordance with Jembatan payment policies.
