How It Works
Often times, in an effort to better educate and expose their students to unique learning experiences, professors and study abroad directors seek to send their students to places other than the well-known and traveled study abroad locations of Europe and even Latin America. However, the problem with “out-of-the-way” locations is that they are just that – out of the way and difficult to get to, making it difficult for institutions to create and maintain a viable infrastructure to service study abroad and/or Internship opportunities for their students in such places.
Jembatan International is a Study Abroad Infrastructure Provider. We offer a unique service in the contract study abroad field. We specialize in helping institutions which may not have the ability or desire to create a permanent study abroad infrastructure design and run programs in various Southeast Asian countries. We take care of the day-to-day logistics while you take care of the academic business. Jembatan was founded and is currently ran by academics and professional study abroad facilitators that have over 30 years combined experience in Southeast Asia and 8 years experience running study abroad programs and internships in the region of the globe. Our Responsibilities:
We provide all of the non-academic infrastructure and services for your program:
- Host families
- Transportation to and from country and in country
- Faculty and student safety
- Country Information and contacts
- Meeting facilities
- Professional arrangements with NGOs and schools
- Expert facilitators who are fluent in both English and the local language and customs
- Help in identifying schools for teaching English (TEFOL internships) and public health and development-based NGOs with which students may wish to intern
Your Responsibilities:
You oversee program construction, student recruitment, instruction and monitoring.
- Design your desired program
- Oversee all credit granting issues through your institution
- Secure the necessary permissions from your institution to be off campus for a semester or term
- Recruit your students
- Oversee your students' academic concerns
- Oversee your students conduct

- For institutions who, recruit and contract 15 or more students, Jembatan International will pay for the professor’s travel (flights and in-country) and housing for the program making it more feasible for professors to travel
